DENTURE CARE ADVICE & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Wondering how to look after your new dentures or how often to get a new sports mouthguard? The team at Central Coast Denture Clinic in Erina and The Entrance has all your queries covered. Read our frequently asked questions for handy tips and call us for more information.

  • HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY DENTURES?

We recommend you brush your dentures, soak them and then brush them again. Always clean your dentures over a basin of water or a folded towel to prevent damage should you drop them. For best results, brush with a soft toothbrush and denture cleanser to help remove any stains.

  • CAN I BLEACH MY DENTURES?

Do not attempt to use bleach on your dentures as it can permanently damage them, making them brittle and liable to breakage. Not just that, it can ruin their appearance making them look less natural. Avoid using very hot water as well, as this can distort their shape and you may need to have them relined.

  • CAN I SLEEP IN MY DENTURES?

When your dentures are new, we would recommend you wear them to sleep in. This helps your gums to adapt. After a week or two, we suggest removing them at bedtime to allow your gums to be cleansed by the saliva on your tongue.

  • HOW LONG WILL MY MOUTHGUARD LAST?

For adults, a well-maintained mouthguard will last a long time. We recommend washing it in cold water, storing it in its original packaging and away from direct sunlight.

Children's mouths are constantly changing as they lose teeth and new ones erupt. Ask your dentist to check the mouthguard at your child's regular dental check-up.

  • CAN I CLAIM ON MY HEALTH INSURANCE?

Yes. At Central Coast Denture Clinic, we accept all major private health funds. We use HICAPS so your claim can be made electronically.
